49ers sign former Eagles Running Back to their practice squad

Former Eagles running back Kerryon Johnson was a casualty of training camp cuts and a loaded running back room, but he seems to have landed on his feet. Yesterday, Adam Schefter reported that Johnson would be signing with the San Francisco 49ers practice squad ahead of their Week Two matchup against Philadelphia.
There are two likely reasons why the 49ers brought on Kerryon Johnson. The first is that their starting back, Raheem Mostert, is done for the season after suffering a knee injury on Sunday. Alongside that, Johnson can likely provide some reconnaissance on the Eagles’ playbook after spending training camp with the team.
It’s good to see Johnson land on his feet, and he is deserving of a chance. It was just not the right match in Philadelphia with Miles Sanders, Kenny Gainwell, and Boston Scott already established and looking tremendous to start the season.
