Is LeBron James throwing shade at Ben Simmons?

Lebron James and Ben Simmons have formed a close relationship over the last few years. Coming into the league, Ben Simmons signed with James’ agency Klutch Sports and Lebron himself has been on record about his mentorship of Simmons, especially during his first few years in the league.
Late last night, James tweeted out an interesting comment that most people have directed towards Ben Simmons. James tweeted, “Why do so many ball players work on stuff they are never going to use in the game?? Seriously question. Annoys me a tad.” Philadelphia 76ers fans know this pain too well with Ben Simmons over the last few seasons.
Both Simmons and Chris Johnson, a trainer who works closely with Klutch, have posted videos of him working on his jump shot and three-pointer despite never being implemented into Simmons’ game. These videos continued this offseason, with many fans across the league beginning to get annoyed with this charade.
There have been almost zero instances of this being seen across the league. The only other example that comes to mind would be big men like Andre Drummond shooting three-pointers in open gyms with non-NBA players. These pickup games aren’t serious workouts, so it’s doubtful this is what LeBron James was referring to.
Now the question is, is LeBron James directing this comment at Ben Simmons? I don’t think so, but it wouldn’t be the first time someone close to Simmons had to plead for him to shoot through the media. Until he changes his unwillingness to shoot, his league-wide opinion likely won’t change as he continues to demand a trade from the 76ers.
