Minnesota Timberwolves new President to “work his ass off” to get a Ben Simmons deal done

Are teams finally willing to offer a decent package for Ben Simmons? After rumors the Cavaliers might be willing to offer anyone for Ben Simmons, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to make an aggressive push for the disgruntled 76ers star.
According to Darren Wolfson of SKOR North, the new President of Basketball Operations, Sachin Gupta is going to make a strong push for Ben Simmons and has the backing of new ownership. Gupta replaced former President Gersson Rosas a few days ago and has close ties to 76ers President Daryl Morey.
“(Gupta) is going to work his ass off to try to acquire Ben Simmons and he has full authority to do so. Glen Taylor, Marc Lore, Alex Rodriguez. … Trust me, they’ve given him the green light.”
Glen Taylor is the outgoing owner of the Timberwolves while Rodriguez and Lore headline the new ownership group. It is no shock that a new group will want to make a major acquisition to push for title contention.
The big question is will Sachin Gupta offer Anthony Edwards or Karl-Anthony Towns to get a deal done? 99% chance he doesn’t, but that would be the only significant change Minnesota could make to interest the Sixers besides offering all of their draft capital.
In previous weeks the Timberwolves have reportedly offered deals around D’Angelo Russell or Malik Beasley and Jaden McDaniels alongside draft capital. Even if they combine those offers, it’s still less than if Cleveland went all-in with Darius Garland or Evan Mobley. After Ben Simmons refused to meet with his teammates in Los Angeles, Daryl Morey should hold to Simmons until the perfect deal comes along and not cave in to his demands.
