Rumor: Cavaliers still interested in acquiring Ben Simmons from 76ers

While several teams have looked to be dropping out of the Ben Simmons sweepstakes, a few teams are still in pursuit. Since Simmons was first rumored to be traded, one of the most interested teams in the disgruntled star was the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to Kevin O’Connor, it looks like the Cavs are still in pursuit of Simmons.
“I’ve heard the same thing. The Cavs are a team to watch out for, for Ben Simmons.”
Daryl Morey reportedly wanted a haul from the Cavaliers earlier this offseason, including nearly every young player on their roster. The Cavs have been upgrading this offseason in hopes of making a playoff push, extending Jarrett Allen as well as acquiring Lauri Markannen and Ricky Rubio.
A Cleveland trade for Simmons would need to include veteran Kevin Love, who is making $62 million over the next two seasons. Alongside Love, the headliner would be guard Collin Sexton, who is due for a hefty extension. Although he puts up good stats, many criticize Sexton for being a ball hog on offense and not being the smartest player on the court.
While he did have over 18 attempts a game, Sexton was making nearly 50% of his shots, averaging 24 points per game. According to reports, Ben Simmons is preparing to forgo over $1 million to sit out training camp, so it won’t be long before the 76ers are forced to move on from the three-time All-Star.
