Ben Simmons refused to talk to 76ers employees since his return
Just now, Shams Charania released another report on The Athletic detailing Ben Simmons’ departure from 76ers practice this morning. Charania described the events, but the most notable portion was Simmons’ treatment of the employees at the 76ers’ practice facility in Camden.
“He enters the facility and ignores most 76ers staffers. For instance, when the 76ers’ security official greeted Simmons on Sunday, the three-time All-Star just walked right by him. When others greet him, Simmons typically has given no response. It’s not a requirement for Simmons to talk to people inside the facility, but those present say he has been disengaged and not an active participant.”
Simmons then goes on to work out by himself and has these same staff members be rebounders for him in his workouts. What the hell did these employees do to you, Ben Simmons? These people are essentially bystanders for the whole situation and are trying to be nice human beings. Instead, he just ignores them and continues this primadonna tirade around the 76ers practice facility.
It gets only worse as the article continues. Charania detailed Simmons’ mindset when he returned to Philadelphia and how he views his current standing with the team.
“In Simmons’ first meeting with team personnel last week, a meeting that included Rivers, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and general manager Elton Brand, sources said Simmons reiterated that he was not mentally ready to rejoin the team after the past several months.”
The article ends by restating that Simmons wants to play but is not mentally ready to do so. Doc Rivers and the entire team welcomed Ben Simmons back with open arms, and this is the response he gives them?
The NBA is on the 76ers’ side with how they’re handling the situation, and everyone across the league is disgusted with how Ben Simmons has acted. Philly is willing to have him back for practice on Thursday, but there is no word yet on how that will go.
