Weekend Rips: 76ers host Nets, Birds head to Vegas, Flyers look to smash Panthers

Christ on a cracker, is it the weekend already? Daryl Morey sounded off on 97.5 yesterday, Ben came back to the team and started to take accountability today, and the entirety of The Liberty Line has been entirely off the shits. Combine that with new hire Sylvana thinking I’m a 60-year-old man, and I might need to start heart medication. (I am 23). But more on that later.
You’re all here for one of two reasons: it’s the most comprehensive preview of weekend sporting events, or you hate yourself. So, in the words of Daryl Morey, “buckle in,” have your doctor on speed dial, and make sure a guardian or loved one is nearby.
It’s time to let it rip.
Sixers home opener
Our beloved Philadelphia 76ers will play their first home game of the season tonight, presumably in front of a sold-out crowd at the Wells Fargo Center. It will also serve as the opener for a jam-packed weekend of Philly sports.
Ben Simmons will not be suiting up, but he did appear at the team shootaround this morning and spoke with the team. You can read more about that here from Sixers correspondent and known Simmo the Savage fanboy Jimmy Birrane.
Regardless of the possible distraction, Ben Simmons’ continued issues may be causing for the team, nothing impacts the team’s chance of winning tonight than Joel Embiid’s status. He was seen at the shootaround this morning with his bum knee heavily wrapped up. Jojo is also listed as questionable.
In my opinion, if Joel plays, the Sixers will win. If he doesn’t, they’ll lose, and I will start my weekend waist-deep in beers and tears. So peep the preview here, and watch the game on ESPN @ 7:30 pm.
Eagles head from Screen City to Sin City to face the Raiders.
The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on the road this weekend. Playing in the Sunday afternoon slate of games, we’ll see if the Eagles can take advantage of the absurd levels of organizational dysfunction in Vegas. I think the team can walk away with a dub, especially with newfound space for Dallas Goedert, the return of Lane Johnson to the RT spot, and the abysmal state of the Raiders O-Line.
If Fletcher Cox and Co. can expose the Raiders’ offensive line, that’ll be a huge matchup to win. Check out the other key matchups in this game here.
THE LIBERTY LINE IS PARTNERING WITH OUR GOOD FRIENDS OVER AT PICKUP TO GIVE AWAY CROSSNETS ($150 VALUE) TO 2 LUCKY WINNERS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MAKE YOUR PICK ON THE PICKUP PROP IN THIS ARTICLE AND FOLLOW THE STEPS TO VERIFY YOUR PICK FOR A CHANCE TO WIN.
What a deal, and what a game it will be. I automatically have to pick the Birds here, and I highly recommend you do too. You can watch the game on FOX at 4:05 pm, but you should definitely watch it on mute. Fox broadcasts blow.
Flyers vs. Panthers at The Farg
South Philly is in store for a Saturday Night Special matchup between the Flyers and the Florida Panthers. Unsurprisingly, I can’t name a single player on the Panthers (Barkov? Or is that a villain from the Call of Duty Franchise?) Regardless, I’m hype for it. Our guys at The Liberty Yell are cranking the content out, so go peep their Twitter here so you can stay up to date on everything.
The lines aren’t out yet, but you better hammer the Flyers. They aren’t dropping a game against the damn Panthers. They probably suck!
Watch at the mid-weekend clash @ 7:00 pm Saturday night on NBC Sports Philly.
The Liberty Line
Business is booming here at The Liberty Line. We’ve got new shirts dropping left and right, the content is flowing, and the vibes couldn’t be better… or so I thought.
As it turns out, new hire Sylvana, if that is even a name, did not recognize my Twitter profile picture, which I have here below:

Instead of recognizing our Commentary God John Kruk, she thought that was just a photo of me. Needless to say, that led to some pretty unfortunate misunderstandings throughout her first hours at the company. Will I recover from this first impression? Only time will tell.
You know what, fuck it. There’s sports to watch. Grab some beers, grab some buddies, and enjoy your weekend while I wallow in self doubt. Go birds baby.
