Patrick Brown practices with Flyers for first time; Carter Hart gets the nod tomorrow against the 4-0-0 Panthers

The 2-0-1 Flyers have enjoyed two days off since their 6-3 win against the Boston Bruins. Patrick Brown practiced with the team for the first time since being picked up on the waiver wire. Brown was claimed by Chuck Fletcher on October 11th from the Vegas Golden Knight. Unfortunately, Brown tested positive for COVID upon his arrival in Philadelphia and had to quarantine with his family for 10 days.
Patrick Brown won’t suit up tomorrow vs FLA, but it’s still nice to see him out on the ice with his new teammates and getting familiar with the new surroundings. Brown said he didn’t do much during the 10 days, mostly resting with his family and occasionally partaking in some yoga. He’ll need a couple of practices to get back into game shape, even then Patrick Brown might be the odd-man out right now with Zack MacEwen in the line-up.
The Flyers have really emphasized getting bigger and more physical in their bottom six with the additions Zack MacEwen and Patrick Brown. When Oskar Lindblom has to be the one to drop the gloves and show he’s got heart, you know you probably need to sit down and reevaluate things.
With the veteran additions of Derick Brassard, Ryan Ellis, Zack MacEwen, Nate Thompson, Keith Yandle and Rasmus Ristolainen, nobody is messing with our star players anymore.
You can count on that
Carter Hart unsurprisingly gets the nod tomorrow night with the 4-0-0 Panthers coming into Philly. The Panthers have defeated the Penguins, Lightning, Islanders and Avalanche and now find themselves in South Philadelphia, looking to go 5-0. Hart will have his hands full, but this is exactly the type of game you want to see him in.
A 4-0-0 team that’s surely feeling themselves, coming into Philadelphia looking to spoil our nice little start. Hart currently through two 2 games (Vancouver and Seattle) has a 2.44GAA and a .921sv%. He’s been great when needed and Flyers really need him to have a good performance tomorrow night.
Ryan Ellis and Cam Atkinson both did not practice today, AV calling it maintenance days for both players. AV did admit he’s more confident in Cam Atkinson being in the lineup tomorrow than he is with Ryan Ellis. Ellis is currently dealing with “bumps and bruises” but should be ready to go for the western trip coming up next week.
Quick Hits
- Really excited to see what Carter Hart does tomorrow night against a very good and hot Florida Panthers team. Flyers are most-likely going to be without Ryan Ellis, so they’re going to need Hart to step up big time.
- With Ryan Ellis probably missing tomorrow’s game, that means Justin Braun will jump up and play next to Provorov. We saw this pairing a little bit towards the end of last season, and they actually didn’t play too bad. It’s not something that can work long-term obviously but it should be solid for at least a game.
- Nicolas Aube-Kubel didn’t have the best game against Boston on Wednesday night. He had two big turnovers in the 1st period that almost lead to goals. He had one play where he tried to make a fancy move on the blue line with zero defense behind him and lost the puck. AV acknowledged today in his media availability that he has a few things he needs to clean up.
- With Ellis out, we’ll probably see Nick Seeler called back up and entered into the line-up.
