Bryce Harper Honored With the 2021 Musial Award, Recognized for “Outstanding Sportsmanship”

Bryce Harper had one of the greatest seasons by a Phillie that I have seen in my lifetime. He’s the front-runner MVP, he was dominant night in and night out and gave 110% effort every time he stepped on the diamond. Yesterday, it was announced that Bryce Harper would be honored with the 2021 Musial Award, being recognized for his outstanding sportsmanship.
Bryce Harper was hit in the face with a 97 mph fastball in April if you don’t remember. Everyone in Philadelphia was holding their breath, and nobody knew what was going to happen. Bryce somehow got up and walked off the field, and after the game, he didn’t even really talk about himself. Harper wanted to make sure the pitcher was okay and hoped he knew he didn’t think it was intentional.
Although Hector the Protector stood up for his teammate the next day by plunking a Cardinals batter, Harper portrayed outstanding sportsmanship in his actions. He could have got up, charged the mound, and made a fool out of himself. But being the professional he is, he thought about his opponents first and made it known that everything was fine, and there was no bad blood.
“To be in the same light as him (Stan Musial), I’m definitely humbled.” – Bryce Harper on obtaining the award
Awards will also be going to many athletes and public figures as well, including the LSU Gymnastics team, Wayne and Janet Gretzky, Zaila Avant-Grade (the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee winner), and more. Bryce Harper is alongside many fantastic professional athletes, retired athletes, fans, and teams, who all showed great character, heart, and generosity throughout 2021.
Hopefully, this isn’t the last piece of hardware Bryce Harper will be collecting this year. The MLB Awards will take place in November, after the World Series. Bryce Harper is the odds favorite for NL MVP and has always been our MVP. Tune into the awards to hopefully watch Harper take home his 2nd career NL Most Valuable Player Award.
Ring it.
