Eagles trade Joe Flacco back to Jets: Minshew Mania begins

The quarterback move we all expected. After claiming Reid Sinnett off the waiver wire, the Eagles have traded backup quarterback Joe Flacco back to the New York Jets. Philadelphia will receive a conditional 5th round pick in return. The Jets lost rookie QB Zach Wilson for 2-4 weeks earlier today, explaining their push for a new quarterback.

This offseason, Joe Flacco signed with the Eagles as a backup mentor for Jalen Hurts and only saw playing time in the preseason. Philadelphia acquired Gardner Minshew earlier this season, and he will now take over as QB2. Some reports have indicated that Minshew could eventually push for the starting job, but nothing seems imminent.

Moving a backup quarterback when you have so many for a draft pick is a solid move. The Eagles essentially purchased a fifth-round selection for a minimum contract. So while Howie Roseman gets a lot of criticism, and rightfully so, this was a good trade. The Eagles are preparing to face the winless Detroit Lions on Sunday in hopes of rebounding from their loss to Las Vegas.
