Ben Simmons is working out in Camden, undergoing treatment for mental health and back tightness
Ben Simmons has been working out at the 76ers practice facility in Camden. He was there yesterday practicing, receiving professional treatment for mental health, and undergoing regular treatment for his back. As we all know, the 76ers stopped fining Ben Simmons last week, after hitting Simmons with nearly $2 million in fines leading into the 2021 season.
Allie LaForce confirmed this last night during the 76ers-Knicks game on TNT. LaForce also added that a 76ers front office executive told her that “it’s not about the money for us, it’s about winning a title. We want to win and he’s a regular good player.”
On TNT’s Inside the NBA, Shaq, who has been extremely hard on Ben Simmons over the past four months, changed his tone when speaking about Ben Simmons. Shaq stated that he needed to learn about mental health and be more compassionate about Simmons’ situation.
Over the last week, the change in tone around Ben Simmons has been extremely evident. Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid both took another route and said that everyone from the top down needs to support Simmons, because “he is our brother.”
As we all know, the topic of mental health is a hard discussion. The second you make any type of assumption about it, on either end of the spectrum, you’re met with criticism which is why I don’t really get into it. I won’t ever question what someone is going through. Not my place and really, I’m not interested in doing so.
I do however, think it’s clear that something is going on with Ben Simmons. I understand the mistrust of what he is now going through due to the fact that leading up to these new developments, Simmons, Klutch Sports, and his agent Rich Paul stated that they would do “whatever it takes” to get out of Philadelphia. It makes perfect sense that 76ers fans would be skeptical of the situation.
For now, we’re all just waiting on new developments. The reports from last night during the game are definitely not anything new but it does show you a little bit more insight on what Ben Simmons and the 76ers are currently working through.
