Phillies’ Zack Wheeler and J.T Realmuto Named 2021 Rawlings NL Gold Glove Finalists

After a disappointing 2021 season for the Phillies, the team has a lot of decisions to make heading into a crucial off-season. Free agents need to be decided on from our roster, big names need to be looked at throughout the league, and more. But for now, we’ll celebrate awards. Earlier today, pitcher Zack Wheeler and catcher JT Realmuto were named gold glove finalists for the 2021 season.
Zack Wheeler threw the best year of his career in the 2021 season, shutting down batters left and right and taking over the “ace” duties for the Phillies. Wheeler finished the year with 14-10 with a 2.78 ERA, striking out 247 batters in 213.1 innings pitched, with a WHIP of 1.01. Wheeler was the go-to guy the whole year and was somebody the team could always rely on.
Zack Wheeler is alongside Max Fried (Braves), and Zach Davies (Cubs) for the Gold Glove Award. The winners for the NL and AL Gold Glove awards will be announced on November 7th, on ESPN at 8:30 EST.
JT Realmuto will be matched up with Jacob Stallings (Pirates) and Yadier Molina (Cardinals) for the NL Gold Glove for catchers. JT Realmuto is coming off sort of a down year but was still a dominant force behind the dish. He hit .263/.343/.439 on the year, good for an OPS of .782. Realmuto also tacked on 17 HRs, 73 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and 125 hits.
He gunned down 10 runners out of 28 opportunities this season, giving him a CS% of 28%. Once again, this was a down year from the JT that we know, but when you’re still putting up good enough numbers as Realmuto did, you’re going to be recognized for these honors.

Keep an eye out for the award winners announced on November 7th here at The Liberty Line. The Phillies have some work to do this offseason, but two of their stars are being honored with one of the highest awards throughout all of Major League Baseball. Hopefully, this isn’t the only award that Zack Wheeler will be a finalist for this winter.
