Report: Frustration is mounting with Ben Simmons, no timetable for return

Ben Simmons is ruining my life. Every day we have more information and more mystery surrounding Simmons and the 76ers. Honestly, it’s just getting ridiculous at this point. One day, you have reports that Ben Simmons and the 76ers’ relationship is improving and that he has been engaged at practice. Then you have Doc Rivers in post game press conferences saying that Ben Simmons is “shooting more than he has ever seen” and has been participating more and more each day at practice. Then there are post game press conferences that Doc Rivers has done do not sound sound as promising. What the hell is going on?
Yesterday, there were even more reports that “league sources” were thinking that Ben Simmons would return to the 76ers on an upcoming six game road trip. Today, we have another report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne saying that frustration is rising between the 76ers.
So the 76ers have told us repeatedly that Ben Simmons was getting help on his tight back and his mental health within the organization. Now we have a report totally contradicting what the 76ers have told us. According to Shelburne, Ben Simmons has refused any off-court help from the medical staff within the 76ers organization. Sources also told Ramona that there is no timetable for Ben Simmons’ return to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Now, that does not necessarily mean Ben Simmons is not receiving help. From what I understand, Ben Simmons, although he’s not working with people within the 76ers organization, is receiving help through the NBA Players Association and has been since the summer. Mental healthcare providers are the only ones exempt from team approval, but the NBA owners agreed to the Mental Wellness program thru which the NBPA provides vetted therapists. (Shout out my guys Rob Manoff and Philly Tradesman on Twitter.)
There is also this tidbit about the CBA:
This gets us back into the mental health question again. Of course there is zero trust between the Ben Simmons, the 76ers, and the fans. How could there be? So many different stories. So much bullshit. It’s hard to really know what is going on. Honestly shame on Ramona Shelburne for framing her tweet this way when she clearly states in her actual story on ESPN that Simmons has been receiving treatment SINCE THE SUMMER.
However, I’m still frustrated with the 76ers front office. We literally just posted an article praising Daryl Morey as the savior of the 76ers. And now we have reports completely contradicting what we have been told by Doc Rivers and the team? What the hell is going on? At the very least, can we please all get on the same page with what’s happening?
Obviously for Ben Simmons supporters like myself, this type of update isn’t great. There’s clearly a big disconnect between him and the 76ers and we honestly don’t know how big of one it truly is. Regardless, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why Ben Simmons wouldn’t be doing everything possible to return to the court, play basketball, shoot the basketball, and boost his trade value so he can get the hell out of Philadelphia.
How Klutch Sports cannot step in and help this situation is beyond me. What’s the end game? We still don’t know. I have so many questions. Why the 76ers continue to have zero idea what is going on with Ben Simmons is just as crazy. The entire situation is frustrating and apparently there is no end in sight. As Daryl Morey has said, “buckle up.”
[…] day, another unclear Ben Simmons update from the media. Yesterday, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne stated that Ben Simmons was not receiving medical treatment from the 76ers. That was true. What she […]
