Flyers Shutout Coyotes 3-0; Hart Stops 29 of 29

Shayne Gostisbehere and the Arizona Coyotes looked to break their winless streak against the Philadelphia Flyers but fell short in a 3-0 goaltenders duel. Karel Vejmelka got the nod for the Coyotes and he was fantastic, but Carter Hart was perfect stopping 29 of 29 shots for his first shutout of the year.

The Flyers had a concerning lack of urgency from opening puck drop after being shutout just three nights ago in Calgary. Arizona was dominating play and getting the majority of chances, thankfully Hart was sharp from the jump.
Momentum was seemingly shifting in the Flyers favor and they even outshot Arizona 10-5 at one point. But after a failed powerplay Arizona began to dominate play again and Philadelphia was going to need to fix their second period issues if they didn’t want this get out of hand.
The second period was incredibly frustrating; players not shooting with wide open opportunities and even an Atkinson goal called back because the ref wish he blew the whistle? I need someone to make sense of that one for me.

It was clear from the beginning this was going to be a classic Flyers playing down to an inferior team kind of game. It was 0-0 going into the third, and for a while it was getting scary for the Flyers.
The urgency hit the Flyers in the third period and you could see them pressing hard for a goal. Konecny picked up the puck on a 2-on-1 and put it right on the stick of Couturier to make it 1-0.
That’d be a goal for Sean Couturier in his 700th career game! 👏 pic.twitter.com/ZjjiwBQXIG

A lot of this game was back-and-forth play with not a lot happening, quite boring actually. A true goalie duel.
Karel Vejmelka was outstanding in this game for the Coyotes and most likely the only bright spot on his team. Coming into this game he already had a .920 SV% with a 0-5-1 record; very telling.
Carter Hart finished the game with his first shutout of the season saving 29 of 29. It got a little scary, but Hart was able to get the job done and take home two points. Laughton and Giroux provided insurance goals (one of them being an empty net) to put a stamp on the game to win 3-0.
