76ers reportedly discussing Ben Simmons trade with Pistons

Jerami Grant could be headed back to Philadelphia. Earlier this evening, Keith Pompey reported that the 76ers and Detroit Pistons had preliminary discussions on a Ben Simmons deal. The headliner of the deal would be forward Jerami Grant alongside some other prospects and draft picks.
The additional players discussed were former Villanova wing Saddiq Bey and big man Kelly Olynyk. According to Pompey, the Pistons didn’t want to include either in a trade. At the same time, Sixers brass said they’d want a higher profile player than Grant, and the two sides haven’t talked recently. At the same time, others told Pompey the Sixers did engage with Detroit recently.
Another player mentioned is Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden this offseason via a sign and trade. The Nets are imploding with the Kyrie Irving situation while Stephen A. Smith said yesterday that Harden could want out of Brooklyn.
While a Grant deal sounds interesting, the package doesn’t seem to fit what Daryl Morey has made it clear the 76ers are looking for. For Harden, the pairing of Kevin Durant and Simmons is enticing and would surely get the deal done if the superstar guard does want to leave. Before joining the Nets, James Harden did have Philadelphia as a destination.
Currently, the 76ers are playing Grant’s former team, the Denver Nuggets, while in the midst of a lengthy road trip. It was also noted in Pompey’s article that Joel Embiid could miss the entire road trip as he recovers from his battle with COVID-19.
