COVID strikes Union, forces team to cancel training

Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin met with the media Friday morning ahead of their Eastern Conference Final match with NYCFC. Unfortunately, Curtin had some bad news to share.

“There’s been a lot of emotion, uniqueness this week-we were unable to train yesterday due to players going in health & safety protocols of MLS. We were able to return today. We will follow league protocol with hope of having as many players as possible for Sunday.”

This is absolutely devastating news from the club as they are about to play the biggest match in club history. There is still no word as to who could be out but for now, let’s just hope everyone can play this Sunday. These players have worked so hard for this moment, and Jim Curtin said that they will make us proud no matter what.

“We’ve stepped up in big moments all year. International absences, challenges of Concacaf, players losing loved ones, adversity on & off the field. Our group always finds a way to step up. I expect this weekend to be more of the same. We will make our fans proud.”

Just when we thought the Philadelphia Union were about to save the world of Philly sports this weekend, the sports gods said “no”. As we get more information regarding who’s out this Sunday we will be sure to update everyone here on The Liberty Line.
