Mike Yeo is the bench boss, for now; Avalanche vs Flyers preview

In what has been a pretty eventual day in Flyers land, we still have a hockey game to play. Intern Head Coach Mike Yeo and his 8-10-4 Flyers look to snap an 8-game losing streak tonight against the 12-7-2 Colorado Avalanche. You can catch the game at 7 PM on NBCSP.
Martin Jones, who came into last night’s blowout loss against Tampa, will get the nod from Mike Yeo. Jones is currently 3-3-1 on the season with a 2.94 GAA and a .917 SV%. His last game came against the New Jersey Devils on November 28th, where Jones saved 30 of 35 shots in that ugly 5-2 loss.
Jones did get into last night’s game against Tampa after Carter Hart got pulled after allowing five goals on 15 shots. Jones allowed two goals on 12 shots, being left out to dry, just like he and Carter have been all season long.
According to Giroux, the team apparently had a closed-door meeting after last night’s game. Obviously, Giroux isn’t going to sit in front of the media and tell us exactly what was said, but you have to think it wasn’t fun. Cam Atkinson came out and said it was “embarrassing” to put that kind of effort in front of the Philly fans, and I gotta say it’s nice to hear someone who hasn’t been here for seven years say that.
Colorado will get some reinforcements tonight in the returns of Kadri, who is having a hell of a season with 9G-21A-30P in 20 games, and Cale Makar. Bowen Byram is still expected to miss the game, as he’s dealing with a head injury.
It’s not going to be an easy task, even if COL is without a couple of players like Tampa Bay was last night. Tampa was on a back-to-back and playing their fifth game in 7 nights, and still spanked us for a touchdown. Colorado will be playing in their 4th game of a 5-game road trip, which they’re currently 1-1-1 on. The Flyers need to show some kind of life.

After this morning’s news broke and Twitter had their meltdown, the Flyers announced they have sent down Connor Bunnaman to the Phantoms, and have yet again, called up F Max Willman. I hope this guy has an EZ pass and a car that’s good on gas because my man has been going up and down for the last handful of weeks.
Mike Yeo said in his presser this morning that tonight is going to be more of a “mentality” kind of game than “X’s and O’s,” there’s only so much you can do in such short notice. We’ve already heard Giroux say, “I expect us to answer tomorrow,” so I’m curious to see how this team responds after a closed-door meeting and two of their coaches losing their jobs.
I know I lost some money by putting a little bit on the Flyers last night. When I tell you Claude Giroux to score a point at -150 on Parx Sportsbook is an absolute lock, I mean it. Angry Claude Giroux is the best kind of Claude Giroux. I’m looking for the captain to come out extremely mad tonight.
