Construction on Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia is underway

After reports earlier this year that Barstool Sports would be opening a bar in Philadelphia, we finally have our first look. Early Friday afternoon, Dave Portnoy tweeted out a photo of what appears to be the inside of the bar under renovation. The bar will be located at 1213 Sansom Street in Center City, right by Thomas Jefferson Hospital.

The logo appears to be Barstool in script with Sansom right underneath it. Previously, this location held the Brickwall Tavern, which closed in 2020. According to Penn National, another standalone bar will be opening in Chicago around the same time. There is still no expected opening date for the bar, but it will drive heavy traffic in the city. The initial expectation was late 2021, but it remains unclear if that will remain the case.

Barstool’s owner, Penn National, is also located in Pennsylvania. With Barstool having pushed the launch of their app in Philly last year. It’ll be exciting to see what personalities and events are brought to the bar when it eventually opens.

Foot traffic is heavy in the area, with Fergie’s Bar just across the street from the upcoming location. As construction continues, we will be sure to get more information. Based on the photo, It could still be a few months from opening.
