Please play a full 60 minutes: Flyers at San Jose Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers (13-12-5) take on the San Jose Sharks tonight (16-14-1) and have a chance to put together a nice little 3-game winning streak. Gerry Mayhew was sent back to the taxi squad, and Jackson Cates was activated onto the active roster. You can catch the game at 10:30 pm (NBCSP).
The Flyers escaped last night’s game against the Seattle Kraken thanks to Ivan Provorov’s beautiful OT winner. Provorov seems to love OT, he’s scored some huge goals over the past couple years in extra time.
Martin Jones was fantastic last night for the Flyers. He stopped 34 of 36 shots, with 23 of them coming in the first and second periods. I don’t know how many times I’ve sat here and typed that the starting goalie was the sole reason we were in the game, but it happened yet again last night.
The Flyers had 11 shots through two periods, and only one of the chances counted as a high-danger chance. Frost tried to find Zack MacEwen at the backdoor in the first period and justtttt missed the connection.
We’ll see if Jones will get the nod from Mike Yeo against his former team later tonight. Yeo said in his recent media availability that Sandstrom could get a look during the road trip. Jones facing 36 shots last night and having to play OT ontop of that, doesn’t help his case to start tonight. Would love for Sandstrom to get his first look in net as a Flyer, but I’m sure Jones wants to play against his former team.
Flyers Lineup
Farabee – Hayes – Konecny
Lindblom – Giroux – Atkinson
Willman – Frost – JvR
Cates – Brown – MacEwen
Provorov – Braun
Sanheim – Ristolainen
Yandle – Connauton
Jones/Sandstrom
With no morning skate and Mayhew exiting the lineup, I’m not sure if Yeo is going to mix up the lines at all. We’ll find out the closer 10:30 approaches, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to mix it up.
Arizona put up seven goals against the Sharks on the 28th, so I need the Flyers to not look like they forgot how to play hockey for 40 minutes. I’ll take barely escaping last night with an OT win, despite getting grossly outplayed for most of the game. A win is a win, yes, but I need them to come out and look good for more than a period tonight.
The power play has been better since AV and Therrien departed. A Daryl Williams-led power play has gone 4 for 13 (30%) in their last 6 games. They didn’t receive a power play in that blowout win against New Jersey on the 14th, which is crazy since they put up 6 goals.
Giroux cemented himself 2nd All-time in Flyers History with 884 points with that beautiful assist to JVR on the power play last night. G is an incredible player whose entire career has been wasted by this franchise, it’s disgusting.
Parx Sportsbook
The Flyers are +140 on Parx Sportsbook tonight to go into San Jose and beat the Sharks. They were “underdogs” last night against a now 10-17-4 team, but this time I think the line is fair. The Kings are young, yes, but they have some exciting skilled talent that plays fast. I’m looking forward to this matchup.
They can’t sit down and let the Kings dominate the first two periods like they did with Seattle last night. They were lucky they were facing a Hakstol led team that lacks any kind of scoring touch. A fast start would be crucial tonight, especially if Felix Sandstrom gets his first NHL start.
