Flyers add Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov, and a staff member to the COVID protocol list

If having to watch another game of Keith Yandle and Kevin Connauton wasn’t bad enough, the Flyers just announced that Claude Giroux, Ivan Provorov, and a staff member have entered COVID protocols.
The Flyers are coming off an embarrassing 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, where Martin Jones had to face 30+ shots yet again.
That means Ivan Provorov’s record of playing 403 straight games since coming into the league as a 19-year old is officially over. We saw the same exact thing happen with Claude Giroux last season. To think of all the injuries that Provorov must have pushed himself through to keep that streak intact, only for it to end this way is heartbreaking. I really feel bad for the kid.
Flyers lose a forward in Giroux but received Scott Laughton back from the protocol list a couple of days ago. Look for either Laughton or Morgan Frost to jump into the top six and play with Joel Farabee and Cam Atkinson.
Flyers rookie defenseman Cam York will make his season debut in his hometown of Anaheim, surrounded by family a day before his 21st birthday. This is not the circumstances you would like York to be playing in obviously, but it’s still pretty cool he’s about to make his season debut in the stadium he grew up going to games in. York has 1G-7A-8P in 21 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season.
The Ducks currently only have 10 forwards available, with big names like Trevor Zegras and Ryan Getzlaf on the protocol list. The Flyers are missing Couturier (injury), Giroux (COVID), Provorov (COVID), Nick Seeler (COVID), and Ellis (Not real).
I personally don’t think this game is going to happen. If it does, get ready for some sloppy, boring hockey. We’re already used to that, so it shouldn’t be that big of an adjustment.
Gerry Mayhew, Cam York, and Max Willman have been activated from the Taxi Squad to the active roster according to the Flyers. Mayhew has played one game this season and it came against the Seattle Kraken on December 29th. He recorded no points and ended the night as a -1.
We’ve seen Willman in the last three games since returning from the COVID list himself in that same Seattle game as Mayhew. Willman has 2G-1A-3P in 15 games for the Flyers this season.
