Nick Sirianni “still discussing” benching starters against Cowboys

When talking to the media this morning, Nick Sirianni was asked about the Eagles resting their starters against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
The Eagles’ Week 18 game has very little meaning, with their playoff berth secured. Both team’s Wild Card opponent is outside of their control so honestly, what’s the point of risking injuries?
Sirianni stated that the team was “still discussing” the possibility, but that everyone was good to go if needed. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Monday that his starters would be playing against the Eagles and as of now, that statement hasn’t changed.
Still coaches can’t come out and say they’re benching their entire team for rest, especially in a game that was flexed into prime time. However, their starters could all conveniently be injured and ruled inactive right before kick-off.
If Sirianni is publicly stating they’re discussing it, then there’s a good chance we won’t see the Eagles’ starters much this week. While they could be benched entirely, the most likely scenario is a preseason-type game. Let the starters play the first few drives so they don’t get rusty and move to Gardner Minshew and company by the second quarter.
Sirianni mentioned that all 12 players in COVID protocols will be active, so we should see those names off the list as soon as their mandatory five-day quarantine ends Saturday. Both teams know there’s no need to go all-out this weekend, so I highly doubt we see a competitive game between these two to end the season.
