The ‘Fresh Prince’ remake trailer dropped and it is cringeworthy

Peacock has officially released the trailer for their ‘Fresh Prince’ remake, and, unfortunately, it’s as bad as I initially suspected. ‘Bel-Air,’ the allegedly edgy version of the classic show, will officially start streaming on Feb. 13.
In terms of pointless remakes, this one ranks pretty near the top. But before I continue on my rant, have a look for yourself:
Come on. You can’t tell me you’re excited to watch that story unfold, let alone cop a Peacock subscription to do so.
Just look at it. It’s supposed to be a dark retelling of a classic show, but it comes off like ‘Euphoria’ without all the things that make people want to watch it. Granted, I’ve never seen it before, but I definitely feel like
It’s more angsty than anything else. It’s like Peacock tried to make ‘The Dark Knight’ but cast a Tom Holland and shot it like an episode of Degrassi. No thanks!
I understand that it’s Will Smith’s right to do whatever he wants with the Fresh Prince story. He made that show what it was, so it’s only fair.
At the same time, he could’ve gone in a much better direction with the concept. In fact, the source material inspiring this darker retelling was 10x more compelling than this project.
Just look at this 2019 trailer for a fan’s own interpretation of the ‘Fresh Prince’:
DAMN. Now that is what I call a compelling trailer. The cinematography is less polished and bright than the Peacock version, and the actors are quite frankly just better.
Regardless of my thoughts, here’s hoping ‘Bel-Air’ can prove me wrong.
