Philadelphia Union officially announce 2022 preseason schedule
The Philadelphia Union have officially announced their 2022 preseason schedule. They are entering this season coming off of their best year in club history that included their deepest playoff run to date.
The team will train in market before heading down to Clearwater, where they will be doing their preseason training for the eighth consecutive season. The Union will start their in-market training in Chester Monday, January 17th. Pliers will then move down to Florida after passing medical clearances and physicals.
Once in Florida, the Union will play three scrimmages:
- Tuesday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. ET vs. FC Cincinnati (Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex)
- Tuesday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. vs. TBA Opponent (Florida Gulf Coast University, Ft. Myers)
- Friday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. vs. TBA Opponent (Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex).
Following the last scrimmage, the Union will return back home to complete their training ahead of the 2022 MLS regular season. Their first game is the home opener against Minnesota United on February 26th at 1:00 pm.
The Union are around seven weeks away from the start of the MLS regular season and have a very important player potentially on the move. It was reported this week that All-Star left-back Kai Wagner is looking to leave the club during the January transfer window and head to Europe. They will need to figure out this important part of their starting lineup in a short amount of time.
If the club does move Wagner, they don’t really have a replacement to start at left-back. The Union may have to experiment with the back line and have some sort of tryout for the open starting spot. It will be interesting to see how the starting lineups down in Florida. Only time will tell, as the preseason officially starts next week.
