Tank Mode baby? Red Wings at Flyers Preview

The young (20-21-6) Detroit Red Wings come into the city of brotherly love to take on the (15-22-8) Philadelphia Flyers. Derrick Brassard and Nick Seeler are in with Morgan Frost and Cam York back down in the AHL. You can catch the game at 7 pm on NBCSP.
Carter Hart will get the nod with the boys finally returning to the ice after Claude Giroux stole the show at All-Star weekend. Hart is currently 9-14-5 on the season with a 2.80 GAA and a .915 SV%.
I have to admit, I’ll always miss Flyers hockey during breaks like All-Star weekend, but I’d be sitting here lying if I said I wasn’t a little relieved at the thought of not having to sit down and watch Carter Hart get shelled for 60 minutes.
Derick Brassard
Derick Brassard will finally return tonight after bouncing in and out of the lineup since November.
- Hurt on November 23rd vs Tampa Bay
- Returned against New Jersey on December 8th only to leave the lineup directly after
- Returned against Pittsburgh on January 6th only to disappear again until now
Danny Briere was named assistant to the general manager yesterday and had a media availability this morning speaking on the recent “promotion”. Briere mentioned that the focus is now on the trade deadline within the organization and what they’ll do there, and eventually it’ll shift to preparing for the NHL draft.
So, if the new assistant to the general manager basically openly admits that this season is washed and there are other things they’re focusing on, why am I still seeing Keith Yandle, Nick Seeler, Max Willman, and Derick Brassard?
It’s time to give Morgan Frost, Cam York, Issac Ratcliffe, Egor Zamula, and the rest of the young guys big-time NHL minutes. What’s the worst thing that can happen, you lose? I endured two 10+ losing streaks before the All-Star break even happened, I promise you I don’t care.
We are currently the 7th WORST team in the NHL and this coaching staff/management group has looked us directly in our eyes and said “You will get Derick Brassard, Connor Bunnaman, Keith Yandle, and Nick Seeler over Cam York and Morgan Frost.”
Thanks, we’re currently in the running for Nolan Patrick 2.0 and I’m still watching Nick Seeler. It’s a joke at this point.
Flyers/Detroit
It’ll be cool to go up against the Red Wings tonight considering we haven’t seen them since February 3rd, 2020 (3-0 W). They’re a very different team from then, with budding stars Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider quickly emerging.
Speaking of Raymond and Seider, both rookies are Top 5 in the NHL Rookie scoring race right now.
#1: Raymond – 11G-24A-35P in 47GP
#5: Seider – 4G-25A-29P in 47 GP
Even with those two having a hell of a rookie season, Dylan Larkin is still a problem and somebody the Flyers really need to keep their eye on tonight. Larkin leads the Red Wings in points (7), assists (3), and goals (4) in their last 5 games.
Line-up vs Detroit Red Wings
Oskar Lindblom – Claude Giroux – Cam Atkinson
James van Riemsdyk – Scott Laughton – Travis Konecny
Gerry Mayhew – Derick Brassard – Max Willman
Issac Ratcliffe – Connor Bunnaman – Zack MacEwen
Ivan Provorov – Justin Braun
Travis Sanheim – Rasmus Ristolainen
Keith Yandle – Nick Seeler
Carter Hart

Personally, I believe Red Wings ML tonight is a lock. I don’t see this Flyers team winning three games in a row or see them keeping up with this young, fast, and hungry Red Wings team.
Neither ML looks good with Detriot at -106, and the Flyers at -117 on Parx Sportsbook.
