Rumor: Jason Kelce leaning towards returning to Eagles in 2022

One of the biggest storylines this offseason has been the potential retirement of Eagles center Jason Kelce. The 34-year-old mentioned he wants to go out on top, but would continue playing as long as he contributes to the team and is healthy.

According to Jeff McLane, it looks like Eagles fans could be seeing Kelce for one more season.

“He said Friday that he’ll take a few more weeks to decide, but indications are that he’ll return for a 12th season. Several people close to Kelce, while not saying they know what his decision will be, have said they believe he won’t retire.”

Kelce was named an All-Pro this season and is widely considered to be the best center in football still. The Eagles’ center has been mulling retirement for a few years, signing short-term deals to keep his options open.

Kelce is a free agent after the 2022 season, but it’s almost certain that if he decides to continue playing, it will be with Philadelphia. His teammate, Brandon Brooks, retired a few weeks back after five seasons with the franchise.

Shortly after their loss to Tampa Bay, Nick Sirianni joked that he sent him two kegs of beer to continue to play. Kelce mentioned before the shortening of difficult practices helped him play longer, and the Eagles would likely let him practice even less if it means he would stick around longer.

Last offseason, the two sides agreed to a deal in early March, so any decision will likely come again around that same time. Everything is pointing towards an eventual return at this time, and hopefully, it stays that way.
