Gross! The 2022 Olympics were a ratings catastrophe

This year’s Olympics in Beijing were an unqualified disaster. From traitorous Americans like Eileen Gu switching sides to play footsie with the Chinese government to a Russian figure skating cheater being allowed to compete freely. Don’t even get us started on how they treated sick athletes. Freedom took a black eye this Olympics.
Nobody watched the Olympics

It’s not surprising that nobody wanted to watch this year. The Beijing Olympics saw their ratings fall 42% from 2018. Only 11.8 Million people watched the primetime coverage of the games.
NBC was quick to spin this as actually being a victory for their streaming platform. They apparently took notes on propaganda while in China. I’m sure the public relations director that claimed less people watching the games was a sign of how strong their network is will be receiving a nice boost to their Social Credit Score.
But let’s be honest, without googling can you even tell me which country won the most medals this year? Guess.
It’s Norway
Now can you tell me which country won the second most medals? You can’t tell me. Because it was the ROC that won the second most. They technically are from Russia but have so many steroids in their bodies they transcend national boundaries.
Seriously though feel free to read up on why the Olympics don’t let the Russian government field a team in the Olympics. They had a whole state sponsored doping program. They basically watched the training montage from Rocky IV and thought, “Hey! Let’s do that to our figure skaters.”
Somehow the fact that these same athletes are competing under an Olympic flag is supposed to be enough of a punishment. Why can’t they simply be banned outright from the games? I refuse to dedicate any time to researching what should be the obvious solution. The answer is clearly that the Olympics don’t care.
They’ve never cared. In the past they’ve turned an evil demagogue into a beloved icon. And that’s just Al Michaels.
Don’t get me started on how they made Hitler look good.
So farewell to the Olympics. We look forward to complaining about you again in 2024.
