Cap Alert: Braves GM cries to reporters about Freddie Freeman

There is one universal rule in this world when it comes to sports. You don’t have to be a baseball fan to know it either. “There’s no crying in baseball” is the most well known rule in all of sports and honestly, should be added to the Constitution of the United States.
With free agency in full effect, there have been a ton of big moves throughout the week. One of the biggest came from the NL East, with the Braves acquiring Matt Olson from the Oakland Athletics, marking the end of the Freddie Freeman era in Atlanta.
The reign of terror is finally over. Freddie Freeman destroyed the Phillies throughout his career, slashing .298/.398/.455 with 30 HR and 120 RBI over 194 career games against the Phillies.
However, the Olson reign of terror on the Phillies looks like it’s just getting started. Olson, an Atlanta native, is a two-time gold glove winner who is coming off a career year in 2021 that saw him slash .271/.371/.540 and produce 5.8 WAR while playing in a massive pitchers park.
Freddie Freeman Traded, Braves GM Cries…?
That brings us to Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos crying while announcing the Matt Olson deal.
This is stupid and a classic example of what the internet would call “cap”.
Despite Anthopoulos being a total cry baby, he knows very well letting Freeman walk was a genius move by Atlanta. In Olson, the Braves are acquiring a worthy replacement for Freeman who is four years younger and under arbitration control for an additional two seasons.
Oh, and not to mention, the Braves then gave Olson to an eight year contract extension worth $168 million, a deal that will run through the 2029 season and includes a $20 million club option for 2030. Olson’s extension will pay him $15 million for the 2022 season, $21 million for 2023, and $22 million per season for the remainder of the contract.
Phillies fans should be happy, however, that the Braves GM is a slithering snake and feeding the media fake tears about Freddie Freeman when they know damn well it was the best move to make on top of dishing out a massive extension to Olson less than 24 hours after the deal was made.
John Middleton needs to jump at this sign of weakness and kick the Braves while they’re down. While the Braves organization is crying, Middleton and Dombrowski need to be on the phones.
Kyle Schwarber is in agreement to join the Philadelphia Phillies, but why stop there?
The Phillies need to call Freddie Freeman, Kris Bryant, and every other big name free agent to rub some salt in the wound and really stick it to the weak minded Anthopoulos, letting him know that the fake tears are pointless and that Philly is serious about actually contending this year in the NL East.
