Phillies blast 5 home runs, completely destroy the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2

The Phillies closed out the 2022 Spring Training schedule by hammering the Rays 9-2 behind five total home runs, two of which that came from Bryce Harper.

Spring Training: Phillies @ Rays
- Phillies Win 9-1
- Winning Pitcher Ranger Suarez (1-1)
- Losing Pitcher Luis Patino (1-1)
Bryce Harper blasted this Luis Patino fastball 430 feet to the deepest part of Tropicana Field to put the Phillies up 1-0.
It’s truly an honor to watch Mr. Harper swing his bat.
Following a 2-out double from Nick Castellanos, Rhys Hoskins absolutely mashed this slider from Luis Patino 429 feet into the left field bleachers to extend the Phils lead to 3-0.
I love that you can hear the combined gasp of all 1,500 fans in attendance the second Hoskin’s bat made contact with the ball.
I feel like I’m living on the set of 1993’s smash hit Groundhog Day because every single game I am writing about Mickey Moniak hammering the baseball.
Moniak rocketed this fastball 364 feet just over the right field fence for a two-run homer putting the Phillies up 5-0.
Funny, how literally no one has tweeted me lately with their opinions on Moniak being too old to be a prospect, or a bust, or whatever dumb nonsense take you have after watching eleven of his MLB at bats.
Bryce Harper is the hands-down the best hitter in the world. Harper knocked in his second HR of the day, this time on a change up with two men on base to put the Phillies up 8-0.
If you are still counting that’s Harp’s 8th home run of the spring..
Harper finished the day 2-2, 2 R, 4 RBI and ended Spring Training slashing .400/.432/1.143 !
In fact, Harper has the most HR, RBI the highest slugging pct in the MLB (Moniak is 4th).
Ranger Suarez looks like the same pitcher who had a breakout season in 2021 pitching to a fantastic 1.36 ERA.
Suarez was perfect today through 3.2 innings of work and helped himself out with this hilarious defensive play retiring Yandy Diaz from what is essentially where the second basemen should be playing.
I hate to make such grand statement but in my opinion Ranger Suarez is the latino Greg Maddux.
Ryan Yarborough just got dropped from my fantasy team after hitting Mickey Moniak on the hand with an inside 87 mph sinker that failed to sink. To add to the audacity of the moment, it was ruled Moniak actually swung at this pitch to strike out.
No need to worry as x-rays during the game determined Moniak suffered no structural damage to his hand. You can actually tell just by Mickey’s body language that it wasn’t too serious.
But again…how dare Ryan Yarborough. Welcome to the Philadelphia hit-list.
Johan Camargo decided he would get in on the fun, sending this solo shot over the center field fence to put the Phillies up 9-1.
People forget how good Camargo was for the Braves between 2017 and 2018. He put up 5.4 WAR combined over the two seasons, including 19 HR and 76 RBI in 2018.
It seems injuries and inconsistent playing time hurt Camargo over the next two seasons although he managed to bounce back nicely in 2021, hitting a dominant .326/.401/.557 in 104 Triple-A games.
Camargo passes the hitting eye test for me. He simply looks like a professional hitter up there. Add the value he provides in playing multiple infield positions and Camargo quickly appears like a very important piece of the 2022 club.
