Preview: Phillies look to win series vs Brewers with Aaron Nola on the bump

The Phillies look to win their first series since Opening Day Weekend tonight, as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:00 on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Aaron Nola (1-2, 5.52 ERA) will get the ball for the Phillies, going up against Eric Lauer (1-0, 3.48 ERA) for Milwaukee.
Yesterday was a tough day for the city of Philadelphia. The Sixers lost Game 4, and Pascal Siakam sounded off on Joel Embiid like he won the NBA Finals. It was rumored that Joel Embiid had a torn ligament in his right hand, which was eventually confirmed today. Good thing Joel Embiid is the best player in the world, and doesn’t care about a little tear…he’ll be just fine.
Then the Phillies crushed our hopes and dreams of a sweep, as they fell by a final score of 5-3. Zack Wheeler suffered a crucial 4-run inning, that put the Brewers up 4-3 in the top of the 5th. The offense could never climb back, and Wheeler would eventually suffer the loss.
We now turn our heads to tonight. The Phillies are looking to win their first series since Opening Weekend vs the Athletics, and get some confidence back in this locker room. Every time it seems like the team might be building something, stupid mistakes ruin the momentum. Tonight is a great night to start going on a run.

Tonight’s Pitching Matchup
Phillies: Aaron Nola will get the ball for the Phils tonight, making his fourth start of the season. Nobody really knows who Aaron Nola is right now. One day he’ll look like a Cy Young pitcher, and the next day he’ll look like he belongs in Triple-A. Nola has thrown 14.2 innings this season, suffering 13 hits, 9 earned runs, and four home runs. Nola has been good vs the Brewers throughout his career, averaging a 3.05 ERA in 8 starts vs Milwaukee, with 55 strikeouts and a 4-1 record.
Brewers: Eric Lauer is set to take the hill tonight for Milwaukee, throwing his third game of the 2022 season. Lauer has had a good start to his year, tallying a 3.48 ERA over his first two games. He’s allowed four earned runs, two HRs, and struck out 10 batters between the Pirates and Orioles. Lauer has dominated the Phillies in the past, holding a 1.42 ERA and 15 strikeouts through 3 appearances against Philly.
