Series Preview: Phillies gear up for 4 more games against the Colorado Rockies starting tonight at 6:45

The Phillies look to get back in the win column this week, as they welcome the Colorado Rockies to town for a four-game series. The Phillies currently sit at 6-10 on the year, while the Rockies have surprised most of the league by starting off 10-5.
Aaron Nola threw a gem last night, but the Phillies offered zero run support, losing the series finale to Milwaukee 1-0. A miscommunication by Odubel Herrera led to the only run of the game in the 9th inning, and the Phillies’ offense couldn’t get anything going in the bottom half. The team struck out 16 times last night, 8 of them coming from Hoskins, Harper, and Castellanos.
After a horrendous night from Angel Hernandez, Schwarber (rightfully) freaked out after being called on a horrible strike three call for the second out. Both teams were chirping Hernandez all night, but Schwarber finally had enough.
The Phillies were dead last night, including their manager, who needed one of his players getting thrown out to get out of his chair and say something to the umpire after a horrible game. Joe Girardi was a disappointment last night, and it was extremely deflating to see your manager do absolutely nothing when his players are fighting for their lives at the plate.
But that’s in the past, I guess. It’s a big day for Philadelphia. The Sixers are going to close out the fraudulent Toronto Raptors and crybaby Nick Nurse tonight, and the Phillies are going to get this series started on a high note. Let’s dive into the pitching matchups.

- 8x Your Money: Kyle Gibson and Kyle Freeland 6+ K’s Each +700

Kyle Gibson has been rolling and the Phillies are pissed off after last night (at least I know Kyle Schwarber is). I think Gibson continues to dominate hitters again tonight, and the Phillies offense comes up big.

Series Pitching Matchups
- Monday (6:45 EST): Kyle Gibson vs Kyle Freeland
- Tuesday (6:45 EST): Zach Eflin vs German Marquez
- Wednesday (6:45 EST): Ranger Suarez vs Undecided
- Thursday (1:05 EST): Zack Wheeler vs Antonio Senzatela
Kyle Gibson gets the ball tonight in the series opener, making his fourth start of the season. Gibson has been the best starter for the Phillies this season, holding a 3.57 ERA in 17.2 innings, tallying 13 hits allowed, seven earned runs, and 19 strikeouts. He’ll go up against Kyle Freeland of the Rockies, who is 0-2 on the year with a 7.71 ERA.
Zach Eflin will go on Tuesday night. Eflin has been roughed up throughout his first three starts, allowing eight total earned runs and 17 hits. His most recent was his worst, although it did end up being a 9-6 win in Colorado. German Marquez takes the hill for Colorado, who holds a 1.38 WHIP and 4.67 ERA in 17.1 innings in 2022.
Ranger Suarez will make his fourth start of the year on Wednesday night. The team hasn’t lost with Ranger on the mound this year, with wins coming against Milwaukee, Miami, and New York. Ranger has thrown 12.1 innings and currently holds a 4.38 ERA with 9 strikeouts on the year.
Zack Wheeler will get the ball in the series finale for the Phillies, looking to get back on track after his rough start to the season. Wheeler is 0-3 in 2022, currently throwing an 8.53 ERA in just 12.1 innings. He’s surrendered 17 hits, striking out just 11 batters and walking four. He’ll go up against Antonio Senzatela, who’s 1-1 on the year in 13.1 innings.
The Phillies offense…who’s hot and who’s not
The Phillies offense went dead last night, getting locked down to just five hits after a dominant night from Eric Lauer. The team has been struggling to get the big hit recently, and the players that need to step up are struggling.
- Rhys Hoskins: .196/.349/.373
- Bryce Harper .226/.300/.419
- Kyle Schwarber .169/.246/.407
While those guys have struggled, the team has also had stars coming up big. Nick Castellanos is slashing .317/.373/.550 on the year with 3 HRs and 9 RBIs, while JT Realmuto is continuing to piece the baseball, hitting .293/.339/.397. Alec Bohm has cooled off a tad over the last two games but is still hitting .355/.400/.516 on the year with 9 RBIs.
Phillies Injury Updates
Didi Gregorius
Didi Gregorius is still sidelined with a hand injury. According to Didi himself, a tendon flared up on his injured left hand. He said he’s feeling better, but there’s no timetable on his return at this time.
Bryce Harper
Harper is still in the DH spot tonight, as he’s recovering from the mild strain in his right elbow. He still won’t throw until Tuesday, which would lead me to assume he won’t play the field vs Colorado. If anything, expect him back in the outfield on Thursday but don’t get your hopes up.
The Colorado Rockies…again
The Rockies are off to an unexpectedly hot start to their 2022 season. They currently sit at 10-5 on the year, a half-game back of the Giants, and one game back of the Dodgers in the NL West. C.J Cron continues to hit the crap out of the ball, as he leads the team with 6 HRs and 17 RBIs. Connor Joe has turned heads as well in 2022, slashing .327/.422/.600 with a 1.022 OPS in 55 at-bats.

Tonight’s Starting Lineup
Prediction
The Phillies are in dire need of a run, and I think they secure a win tonight. Kyle Gibson has been great this season, and Schwarber’s freakout should have shown this team they need to wake up.
Final Pick: Phillies -1.5 and OVER. 8.5 runs
