Phillies capitalize on Rockies miscues, win 8-2

The Phillies beat the Rockies 8-2 on Monday night in large part due to three costly errors by the visiting team.
Connor Joe led off the game with a 426 foot home run on the first pitch from Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson. Randall Grichuk followed with a solo shot of his own in the 2nd. But that would be the extent of the Rockies offense, as Gibson settled down, allowing only two hits over the next 3.1 innings.
Gibson 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
The Phillies would then go on to score eight unanswered runs, powered by Bryce Harper, who hit his third home run of the season and drove in an additional run with a sac-fly in the 7th inning.
Kyle Schwarber was credited with a 2-RBI double to deep center in the 3rd inning, as Charlie Blackmon and Randall Grichuk appeared to lose the ball in the dusk sky and allowed the ball to hit the grass.
The Rockies defense was a mess the entire night, especially in key situations. Ryan McMahon had two errors and Colorado pitchers were also credited for two wild pitches, including one that allowed Hoskins to score in the 7th inning. Jose Inglesias contributed to the four run 7th inning when he booted a soft ground off the bat of Alec Bohm with the bases loaded.
Rhys Hoskins failed to register an RBI, yet had an impressive game going 3-5 on the night with two runs scored.
This was a nice bounce back for the Phillies after the frustrating loss to the Brewers on national television the night before.
I don’t know about you, but I am feeling a four game sweep!
In other news, the Phillies made a roster move on Monday morning calling up the much maligned Roman Quinn and optioning top prospect Bryson Stott to AAA-Lehigh Valley.

Connor Joe absolutely plastered the first-pitch of the game on a Kyle Gibson sinker that didn’t sink for a leadoff homer…
1-0 Rockies
Kyle Schwarber continued his struggles early, striking out swinging in a big at bat with the bases loaded. This would have been the perfect situation for Schwarber to break out his slump that was accentuated by his ejection and tirade directed toward home-plate umpire and blind man Angel Hernandez.
Randall Grichuk lifted this Kyle Gibson curveball over the left field fence to double the Rockies lead.
2-0 Rockies
JT Realmuto, the best catcher in baseball, ripped a RBI double off the Nova Care Rehabilitation sign on the left field wall scoring Rhys Hoskins.
Just an absolute monster hit for the guy I consider the leader of the Phillies. At this point the Phils hadn’t scored in eleven innings and it seemed like the Rockies might run away with the ball game.
2-1 Rockies
The baseball gods finally decided to shine on Kyle Schwarber, when Blackmon and Grichuk got crossed up and allowed this deep fly ball to hit the grass scoring Hoskins and Realmuto.
Gotta feel terrible for Kyle Freeland who got let down by his defense here and gets credited for two earned runs. Ouch!
3-2 Phillies
Is there any sweeter swing than a Bryce Harper opposite field home run ?
That’s Harper’s third home run of the season and 30th solo home run since the start of the 2021 season. Only Vlad Guerrero Jr. has more over than span with 31.
The Phillies should probably start getting on base in front of the future Hall of Famer so he can knock them in. Smart plan..
4-2 Phillies
Kyle Gibson got revenge on Connor Joe before being lifted in the 6th inning.
Seranthony Dominguez, Jeurys Familia, James Norwood, and Bailey Falter combined for 3.1 innings of relief allowing no runs and a total two hits. That’s a few decent outings in a row for a bullpen that came into the game ranked dead last in ERA.
The Rockies committed their third error of the night on this ground ball to Ryan McMahon with the bases loaded. Alec Bohm fouled off four pitches during the impressive nine pitch at-bat that scored Castellanos and Schwarber.
8-2 Phillies
