Get out the Brooms! Phillies Sweep Rockies 7-1

The Phillies beat the Rockies 7-1 to complete a four game sweep Thursday afternoon. The sweep over Colorado is the first for the Phils since 2010.
Just like that the Fightin’ Phils have clawed themselves out of the NL East basement and back to mediocrity reaching .500 at 10-10. It really is their sweet spot and now that they are .500, I fully expect them to remain there for the next 142 games.
Zack Wheeler was electric from the jump this afternoon, looking more like an all star than the pitcher who started the year 0-3 with an ERA north of seven. Wheeler tossed six terrific innings allowing only one hit, on a triple by Sam Hilliard, who was subsequently stranded when Connor Joe to grounded into an inning ending double play.
The biggest difference-maker of late for the Phillies has been the emergence Alec Bohm. Now slashing .326/.375/.500, Bohm had another solid day driving in two runs, one on a solo home run to left field in the 3rd inning. Bohm was also robbed of an extra base hit when Randall Grichuk made a diving grab in centerfield during the Phillies big 7th inning.
Philadelphia scored four runs in the 7th inning despite only registering a single hit. The Rockies walked four hitters, committed an error, allowed a routine fly ball to drop in center field and hit Bryce Harper with a pitch. The Rockies were terrible in just about every facet of the game during the entire series, committing seven errors in total.. That’s not counting the fly balls they were routinely allowing to drop and terrible defense overall by Ryan McMahon at third base.
The bullpen looked perfectly average today, allowing one run over three innings. Brad Hand struggled allowing three hits in only 1/3rd of an inning, but was bailed out by James Norwood after only one Rockies run had scored.
Hand, Norwood and Andrew Bellatti all now have ERA’s below four, an encouraging sign that we may avoid the yearly dumpster fire that is the Phillies bullpen.
2022 Phillies: 10-10
2008 Phillies: 10-10
1980 Phillies: 10-10
Just saying….
Honestly, I am so relieved we are are opening up a series with the rats, also known as the New York Mets. Everyone knows the Phillies own the Mets, especially at the garbage dump, Citi Field.
Nola on the mound tomorrow night. Lets go!!!

Alec Bohm puts the Phillies on the board, grounding out to short but allowing Rhys Hoskins to score in the 2nd inning.
1-0 Phillies
Zack Wheeler got Connor Joe to ground into this inning ending double play during the 3rd inning. The only inning the Rockies seriously threatened to score against Wheeler.
Roman Quinn notches his first hit of the 2022 season with this bunt single to Ryan McMahon, who had a terrible series defensively.
Roman Quinn just doing Roman Quinn…Reach on a bunt single, then steal two bases before being driven home by a Rhys Hoskins sac-fly.
2-0 Phillies
Alec Bohm fought off the strong South Philly wind and crushed this Austin Gomber changeup to pad the Phillies lead.
3-0 Phillies
Zack Wheeler had seven punch-outs this afternoon including this 96 mph fastball to get Alan Trejo.
Ryan McMahon managed to score to finally put the Rockies on the board in the 7th inning, but it was all Colorado could muster on the day.
Roman Quinn secures a four pitch walk to log his first RBI of the season.
4-1 Phillies
Jean Segura with an RBI single to left center on a ball that absolutely should have been caught by the Rockies defenders. My god the Rockies suck at defense!
Bryce Harper takes on to the leg driving in another run on the 10-year anniversary of his first MLB hit.
6-1 Phillies
Damon Jones and the Phillies get the sweep of the Rockies!
