Phillies Mets Game 2 Preview

Game 2 Preview: Phillies Look to Bounce Back Following No-Hitter

The Phillies will look to bounce back Saturday night after being no-hit by five combined New York Mets pitchers. Philadelphia was held hitless for the first time since 2014, when Josh Beckett and the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins at Citizens Bank Park.

Thursday night was a jubilant day for the city of Philadelphia. The Sixers won their 1st round series 4-2 , over the loser Raptors and their dork fanbase, while the Phillies completed a four game sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

Friday was the sports gods way of reminding us of our tortured collective past and requiring us to repent for our many sins.

There is no need to recap what happened last night at Citi Field. It wasn’t a historic moment, despite the New York Mets declaring it so..

No-hitters are by no means rare in baseball anymore. In fact, there were six combined no hitters alone during the 2021 season.

The fact is the Phillies can very much win tonight and still take the series against a division rival by winning two in a row.

FOX Bet Odds Boosts

I know betting on multiple Phillies to get a hit after nobody managed to get even one can be tough, but I think the offense turns it around and scores 5+ runs tonight. FOX Bet is practically handing us free money with the first bet listed. Bryce Harper has recorded a hit in 13 of his last 15 games and just the other day told the media how much he hates hitting triples. Doubles and homers is Harper’s bread and butter and +400 seems likes easy money.

Tonight’s Pitching Matchup

Phillies: Kyle Gibson (2-1) will make his fifth start of the season and is coming off a strong performance against the Rockies in which he allowed only two runs in 5.2 innings. Gibson’s 3.47 ERA represents the lowest number of his ten year career. One big reason for Gibson’s early season success is his walk 2.7 BB/9 walk rate.

Mets: Taijuan Walker will make his second start of the season after landing on the injured-list with shoulder bursitis following his April 11th loss to the Phillies at CBP. Walker looked strong over two innings during that initial start, striking out four Phillies hitters. The Phillies will need a better game plan at the dish than they had on Friday if they want to confound the talented Walker.

Prediction:

The Phillies bounce back in a big way and hang 5+ runs on the Mets, who wont be able to overcome the early strong pitching courtesy of Kyle Gibson.

Phillies +1.5 and over 7.5 runs total. We ride!
