Series Preview: Struggling Phillies welcome the first-place Mets to town for a 4-game series

The struggling Phillies open up a four-game series with the New York Mets tonight at 6:45 EST. The Mets currently hold a 4.5-game lead on the Marlins in the NL East, while the Phillies have fallen to a whopping 6-game deficit in the division.
Something just isn’t clicking for the Phillies right now. They’re playing with zero passion, half the team can’t hit a beach ball with a jumbo wiffle ball bat, and they’re just going through the motions on a night-to-night basis. The team is hitting .186/.274/.346 over the last seven days and has lost four of their last five, including a dreadful two-game sweep by the Texas Rangers.
We’ve really got nothing going for the city of Philadelphia right now. The Sixers are down 2-0, the Phillies look like a minor-league baseball team, and we don’t for sure know when Joel Embiid is coming back, although rumors are pointing to a Game 3 return masked up on Friday night.
The Mets are a legit baseball team, and the Phillies are going to have their work cut out for them this weekend. Everyone likes money, and everyone likes winning free money. Let’s take a look at what FOX Bet has to offer for tonight’s series opener.
FOX Bet Odds Boosts
- Aaron Nola 7+ Ks and Phillies Win +250
- Schwarber or Harper HR and Phillies Win +275
- Brandon Nimmo 2+ Runs +900
- Pete Alonso 2+ HRs +2400
Aaron Nola has started to find his groove recently. He’s coming off an ok performance against the Mets, where he allowed 7 hits in six innings. but struck out 9. Nola’s thrown 7+ Ks in 3 of his 5 starts this year, and I think he does it again tonight. Will the Phillies win? We’re just going to have to wait and find out.
Final Pick: Aaron Nola 7+ Ks and Phillies Win +250

Nola vs Walker
Aaron Nola gets the ball tonight for the Phillies, looking to boost this team to a victory. Nola has thrown 27.2 total innings this year which is tied for the most with Kyle Gibson. He’s allowed 21 hits and 12 earned runs, has struck out 34 batters and has a K/9 ratio of 11.1. He’ll be going up against Taijuan Walker, who has thrown just two games for the Mets this year, both against the Phillies. He’s totaled 7 innings, allowing just two hits and zero earned runs.

What the hell is wrong with the Phillies?
The Phillies look like they’d rather be doing anything else in this world than playing baseball right now. The team has 53 strikeouts in their last 188 at-bats, Bryce Harper is slashing .091/.167/.227 over the last 7 days, and the team that is supposed to hit the long ball has hit just 8 home runs in their last six games.
Joe Girardi is pissed off, the Phillies are pissed off, and the city of Philadelphia is pissed off. The Phils just got swept by the Texas Rangers, a horrible baseball team. If that doesn’t spark the clubhouse, then I don’t know what will. I do think they turn it around this weekend, and I think the offense starts to find its footing vs the division rival New York Mets.

The New York Mets
The Mets, as hard as it is to say, are a pretty damn good baseball team. They’re coming off a series split with the Braves this past week, where they put up just 12 runs in four games. The offense struggled for them vs Atlanta, but they still have hitters in this lineup.
Jeff McNeil leads the way with a .337 average, while Pete Alonso leads the team in HRs (5) and RBIs (21). Pitching has led the way for New York this season, as three of their top guys are all under a 3.50 ERA.

Tonight’s Starting Lineup
Prediction
It’s pretty hard to make a prediction right now because nobody really knows who the Phillies are. I will never bet against this baseball team, and I do believe that they get something going this weekend. I’m hoping for a sweep, but they need to take 3 of 4 if they truly want to show everyone who they are.
Final Pick for Tonight: Phillies -1.5 and UNDER 8.5 runs.
