Mickey Moniak will begin rehab assignment in Clearwater

Good news Philadelphia Phillies fans, Mickey Moniak will begin a rehab assignment today with Clearwater (A) in Florida.
Strong Spring Training for Mickey Moniak
After Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long managed to fix Moniak’s swing in a matter of weeks leading up to Spring Training, Mick caught fire down in Florida, slashing .378/.378/.973 with a 1.351 OPS, finishing camp with six home runs and 11 RBI.
Just when you thought everything was going well heading into Opening Day with Moniak making the Phillies roster in centerfield, we learned that he would miss 4-6 weeks with a hairline fracture in his wrist, which he suffered in his final at-bat of Spring Training.
Just a brutal turn events for the former first overall pick after such a promising Spring Training. Luckily, Moniak will begin a rehab assignment today with Clearwater (A) in Florida.
As for the Phillies in centerfield, it has been has horrible as it was in season’s past, but still is an area that needs to be addressed. Odubel Herrera is everything but consistent slashing .262/.281/.492 with a .773 OPS in 21 games this season.
The other options, Matt Vierling and Roman Quinn (God Help Us) were even worse. Point being, if Moniak can get through rehab over the next few weeks and is able to find his swing at the plate again, there’s no reason why he won’t be in centerfield for the Phillies by mid-June.
The Phillies will open a 3-game series tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park after dropping 2-of-3 to the San Diego Padres earlier in the week.
