Preview: Phillies send Zach Eflin to the mound to sweep the Brewers, extend winning streak to 7 games
The Phillies take the field today at 2:10 EST, looking for a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers and their 7th win in a row. Zach Eflin (2-4, 3.88 ERA) takes the hill for the Phillies, facing off against former NL Cy-Young winner Corbin Burnes (3-3, 2.50 ERA).
The hot bats continued for the Phillies last night, as a 14-hit night powered the Fightin’s to a 10-0 shutout over the Brewers. Aaron Nola continues to pitch his way into All-Star consideration, after another fabulous night on the mound throwing 8 shutout innings, allowing just 4 hits, and striking out six. Andrew Bellatti finished the job in the 9th, throwing a scoreless final frame and striking out one.
Bryson Stott and Kyle Schwarber had four hits each. Stott, Odubel, Hoskins, and Harper all hit home runs. Alec Bohm, JT Realmuto, and Nick Castellanos all added a hit, and Scott Kingery got his first field time in a while at second base.
Rob Thomson is the first manager in the majors to win his first five games since Jim Leyland did so for the Detroit Tigers in 2006. The Tigers went on to go to the World Series…their general manager? Dave Dombrowski.
Completing the sweep against the Brewers as they send Corbin Burnes to the mound would be the perfect tone-setter before they head back to Citizens Bank Park. Next on the schedule, things get easier for the Phillies, facing the Arizona Diamondbacks and Marlins at home, before heading to D.C. to face the Nationals for the first time this season.
The Braves are on fire and have won 8 of 10 games to bring their record to 30-27 on the season, second in the National League and seven games back of the NL East-leading New York Mets.
The Phillies are two games under .500 at 27-29 and 9.5 games behind the Mets. The time to make up ground is happening now and the Phillies are playing their best baseball of the season.

Zach Eflin vs Corbin Burnes
Zach Eflin is set to take the hill today for the Phils, making his 10th start of the season. Away outings haven’t been kind to Eflin, as he holds an 8.10 ERA in four road starts. He’s thrown just 20 innings, allowing 18 earned runs and 30 hits. However, Eflin is coming off one of his best outings of the season, throwing 8 shutout innings against the Angels.
Corbin Burnes will get the ball for the Brewers, who has struggled a tad at home this season. He holds a 3.86 ERA at home compared to a total ERA of 2.50, with a 1-2 record and 42 Ks at home. He’s allowed 19 total earned runs on the year in 68.1 innings.
