Sixers News: James Harden expected to re-sign with Philadelphia 76ers

With NBA free agency beginning on June 30th at 6 p.m. E.T, James Harden’s future in Philadelphia has become a bit clearer.
According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, Harden is expected to re-sign with the Sixers on a shorter-term deal.
“Harden and Sixers leadership are aligned on one clear directive, sources said: The franchise’s best opportunity to compete for a championship starring Joel Embiid, as well as Harden’s optimal opportunity to earn his first NBA ring, resides with Harden playing in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future.”
“Harden is expected to pick up his player option for the 2022-23 season, sources said, but the Sixers’ further financial commitment to him remains to be seen once the legal negotiating period begins.”
The belief is that Harden would be willing to take less financially to increase the Sixers’ chances of competing for a championship. As a result, the Sixers hope to potentially sign Harden to a two-year extension beyond his option to create a favorable three-year deal.
Factoring this into any potential Tobias Harris/Matisse Thybulle trades would only benefit the Sixers’ chances at improving the roster and the cap situation.
