Preview: Phillies look for a series split at 4:05 with Zack Wheeler on the mound
The Phillies take the field today at 4:05 EST looking to split their series with the Texas Rangers. Zack Wheeler (6-3, 2.69 ERA) gets the ball for the Phillies, going up against Jon Gray (2-3, 4.27 ERA) of the Rangers.
The bats went silent in last night’s 7-0 loss. The Phillies logged just six hits, were 0-9 with RISP, and couldn’t take advantage of Martin Perez not having his best stuff. Perez has been fantastic this season but wasn’t at the top of his game last night. He threw just six innings and allowed six hits and three walks, but the Phillies simply couldn’t get any runs home.
The Fightins are now 36-33 on the season and are in desperate need of a win before heading out to San Diego for a 4-game series. Although the Padres are without Manny Machado, Jake Cronenworth and the Padres offense is no joke. Today is a great opportunity to get the bats rolling again, going up against Gray, who has a 3.55 ERA at home.
