Brad Shaw Flyers Coach

Flyers officially hire Brad Shaw, release preseason schedule

The Philadelphia Flyers have officially hired Brad Shaw as an assistant coach.

Shaw spent 12 seasons during the mid-80s through the late 90s as a defenseman in the NHL. He served as an assistant under John Tortorella’s coaching staff in Columbus and is now set to join the Flyers bench focusing on the defense.

For a Flyers team that literally played zero defense last year, bringing in Shaw to help fix things up this season seems to be a strong move. He has a history of coaching strong defensive units.

Brad Shaw’s Defense

Shaw helped Tortorella’s Blue Jackets team pull off a first-round sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2019 NHL playoffs, holding them to just eight goals during the entire series. During the 2019-2020 season, Shaw led the defense to the third-fewest goals allowed in the NHL with 183.
