Jerry West blasted former 76er JJ Redick for stupid “plumbers” comment

NBA legend Jerry West cooked JJ Redick live on the air in an interview with SiriusXM NBA. When asked about the now-ESPN takesman’s comments comparing NBA players of the 1950s-60s to “plumbers and firemen,” The Logo didn’t hold back.

Yeah, the old man’s still got it.
Look, JJ. We love you on First Take, but you’ll have to hold the L on this one. It’s time to show the old-heads some damn respect.
And West is 100% right. If LeBron James or Michael Jordan said something like this, it might have a little more credibility. And, if you’re wondering, they haven’t it’s most likely because they know better as giants of the game in their own right.
JJ Redick was a career role-player with a decent podcast, nothing more. Meanwhile, Jerry West is the fucking NBA LOGO.
One is on known garbage network ESPN, and the other is sitting in front of his own silhouette when conducting this interview. So that’s a good indicator of who you should listen to.
At any rate, the main takeaway here is that two things can be true at once. A lot dudes back in the day were just hooping on the side when they got back from the Korean War.
There is genuinely no reason to compare eras, especially ones separated by 60 years. I know JJ was just doing his job, but it was lame and deserving of the hate he received from legends of the game like Cousy and The Logo.
Granted, my biggest issue with JJ’s initial comment was that he didn’t use my preferred phrasing of “milkmen and dentists,” but that’s secondary to the situation.
Hopefully Redick doesn’t anger West again and incur his wrath:
