Phillies Roster Moves: JoJo Romero optioned to Lehigh Valley following ugly Saturday night loss to Cubs

Phillies left-handed reliever JoJo Romero has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the team announced just moments ago.
JoJo Romero was recalled back on July 15th and pitched just two innings for the team in his time back in the majors. He surrendered four hits and three earned runs in that time and now holds a whopping 13.50 ERA on the season.
Romero pitched 23 games combined in 2020/2021 before receiving Tommy John surgery last season. Romero struggled in that time but did show high upside with his pitch movement, velocity, and command. The decision to option the left-hander could be a move that will be answered in a few short days after Sam Coonrod began his rehab assignment on Friday night.
Although Romero has shown some positives in his time in the majors, the Phillies don’t really have time to waste with experiments at this point in the season. Their bullpen is finally healthy for the first time this year, and they could be planning to shop for another arm at the August 2nd deadline as well.
The Phillies dropped an ugly one on Saturday night, and they’ll now look to avoid being swept by the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Bailey Falter gets the ball for the team.
