Eagles Buzz: Steve Mariucci gives his thoughts on Jalen Hurts heading into the 2022 NFL season

It is no secret to any Philadelphia Eagles fan that quarterback Jalen Hurts will be entering the 2022 season with something to prove.
In his first full season as a starting quarterback, Hurts lifted the Eagles into the playoffs and made significant progression to at least be considered as the franchise quarterback of the future.
Yes, it’s very clear that Hurts needs to take the next step this year, more specifically in the Eagles’ passing game and will be under the media and fan microscope throughout this season.

As training camp kicked off yesterday, the media already began to talk about Hurts and the Eagles, with one NFL analyst already sold on Hurts as the Eagles starting quarterback for years to come.
Steve Mariucci thinks Jalen Hurts has what it takes to lead the Eagles to glory
The former Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers has a long history of praising Jalen Hurts. Their connection stems from the 2020 NFL Combine. There is a famous viral clip of them there you’ve probably seen a million times already.
Yes, I’m talking about the Jalen Hurts “Get Freaky” video.
“Now you take a guy, AJ Brown, and add him to an up and coming superstar I think, in Jalen Hurts, along with not to mention Devonta Smith and Quez Watkins and Jalen Reagor’s gotta get going, and Dallas Goedert too. So he’s got some weapons around him now.”

Sure, in Philadelphia it’s always easy to scoff at any type of praise stemming from a national media pundit, even more so when it’s Steve Mariucci, who I mentioned above has a long history of praising Jalen Hurts.
That being said, Steve Mariucci has coached two of the more successful quarterbacks of all time, in Brett Favre with Green Bay and Steve Young with the 49ers. Both quarterbacks are known for their ability to extend plays and improvise in and out of the pocket, which is something that Jalen Hurts has already shown signs in doing during his short time in the NFL.
I would like to take the opportunity to level with all of you pessimistic Eagles fans
If you’re not going to get excited about a player’s outlook on the first week of training camp I don’t know how to help you. AJ Brown is excited to play with Jalen Hurts, and now Steve Mariucci is excited to see what he does this year with the weapons he’s been provided.
Do you think you know more about football than they do? Probably not. I don’t either.
