Report: Phillies among 3 final teams in talks with veteran starter over the last 48 hours

The Phillies have been in talks with SP Noah Syndergaard over the last 48 hours, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Syndergaard hasn’t been his old self in 2022 but he’d still fit perfectly as a 3-5 guy for the Phillies. He’s 5-8 on the year with a 3.83 ERA in 14 games, tallying 64 strikeouts and a 1.213 WHIP in 80.1 innings. Although he’s allowed 34 earned runs on the year, him being back on the field is a good sign in itself.
Jayson Stark of The Athletic reported yesterday that the Phillies are looking for a pitcher that can start a playoff game, and it seems that hasn’t changed. Tyler Mahle was a name that was mentioned, as Mahle holds a 2.89 ERAÂ in his last 9 starts and throws for a Reds team that is in an obvious sell mode. The 27-year-old has a 4.40 ERA in 19 starts this season.
Here’s a list of noteworthy pitchers that the Phillies could still pursue
- Noah Syndergaard
- Tyler Mahle
- Martin Perez
- Nathan Eovaldi
- Carlos Rodon
- Pablo Lopez
