Phillies Prospects: MLB releases update to Top 100 List, while teams update Top 30 lists

Major League Baseball released an updated version of their Top 100 Prospect List this morning, as well as an updated version of each ball club’s Top 30 Prospect Lists.

The Philadelphia Phillies have two prospects ranked in the MLB Top 100. As you could probably guess, Andrew Painter and Mick Abel both landed spots at No. 25 and No. 57.

  • Andrew Painter, RHP (No. 25)
  • Mick Abel, RHP (No. 57)

Highest-Ranked Newcomers

  • Andrew Painter, RHP, Phillies (No. 25)
  • Ezequiel Tovar, SS, Rockies (No. 28)

Three of the Phillies’ top four prospects are what The Liberty Line have deemed “The Untouchables.” Andrew Painter and Mick Abel just made the leap from High-A Jersey Shore to Double-A Reading, joining Griff McGarry as what’s shaping up to be the rotation of the future for the Phillies.

McGarry is someone to keep an eye on once the Phillies make September call-ups, even more so with Corey Knebel heading to the 15-IL earlier this week. McGarry should be considered as a possible reliever when rosters expand and could play well in short-stint situations as a high-powered weapon for Rob Thomson during the final stretch of the season and into the playoffs.

As for position players, rookie Justin Crawford is now listed as the No. 3 prospect for the Philadelphia Phillies. Johan Rojas checks in as the Phillies’ No. 5 prospect, and the biggest jump in the rankings came from Hao Yu Lee, who started this season at No. 20, now ranked No. 6. Hao Yu Lee has lived up to the hype this season with Single-A Clearwater, slashing .294/.390/.442 with seven home runs and 48 RBI in 61 games.
