Zach Wheeler to hit 15-day IL

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler has officially been placed on the 15-day IL with right forearm tendinitis, the team announced earlier today.

Wheeler has been dominant in 2022 for the Fightins, tallying an 11-7 record in 23 starts with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Wheeler has logged 148 Ks in 138 innings, holding a K/9 of 9.7.

The Phils now lose their No.1 pitcher til at least September 6th. We don’t know the severity of the injury at this time, but the IL placement is retroactive to 8/22. Bailey Falter will make Wheeler’s start on Friday night as the Phillies open up against the Pirates.

Hopefully the Phillies can still sweep the Reds and gain even more momentum for when Bryce Harper returns to the lineup tomorrow.
