Per the team’s press release, “McKeown will establish and oversee a comprehensive and coordinated health and wellness program for all players within the Flyers organization while working closely with the team of doctors and specialists at Penn Medicine.” via NBC Sports
Injuries have always been a huge huge concern to the Flyers, especially with the debacle last year of everyone getting re-injured directly after being cleared to play.
Here’s a quote from everyone’s favorite, Chuck Fletcher about the new position.
“In order to compete at the highest level in today’s game, our players need and deserve a modern, comprehensive performance and wellness program, and by hiring Ian for this new role, we’re investing in a world-class program that we believe will significantly impact our players and our team,” – Chuck Fletcher
McKeown spent 9 years over at the Australian Football League as the head of high performance. His ability to establish an effective, modern wellness plan made such it impact the the Flyers global search selected him.
Hopefully at the very least, the Flyers and whatever left of this fanbase will see a healthier team than in years past.
