Watch: Matisse Thybulle in the gym working on finishing at the basket

At this point, we’ll take any type of offensive improvement from Matisse Thybulle.
It’s the end of August, 76ers fans are pretty much left with nothing but workout videos and off-court news around the NBA. It’s a brutal stretch of the calendar year as everyone preps for the return of football and the final stretch of the MLB season.

However, the former golden boy of Philadelphia, Matisse Thybulle continues to have videos pop up on social media with him working on improving his offensive game heading into the 2022-23 season, so we might as well check them out, right?
Matisse Thybulle Finishing at the Basket
I don’t think I have ever witnessed such a fall from grace like we saw from Matisse Thybulle last season. After being unable to play away games during the playoffs against Toronto due to his vaccination status, 76ers fans basically sent him to the shadow realm. Upon his return, Thybulle looked distorted out on the court against the Miami Heat.
Over the summer, the 76ers looked to move Thybulle on several different occasions but never were able to find the right return. The 76ers also basically stopped any talks of a contract extension. Now, entering his fourth NBA season, I think it’s safe to say that it’s a “make or break” year for Thybulle with the Sixers.
Matisse Thybulle Stats

Last year, Matisse averaged just 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds. Sure, Thybulle for the most part, still provided an elite defensive presence and that’s ultimately why he’s still on the 76ers roster, but over the past few years, he’s looked more like a poor man’s Ben Simmons out on the court.
Developing a three point shot would certainly be nice, especially from someone who would be slotted as a small forward in the 76ers lineup. Joel Embiid didn’t shy away from asking Thybulle to shoot more threes throughout the 2021-22 season.
Regardless, maybe it’s better if the 76ers take a step back and get Thybulle finishing at the basket and build his game in the paint and start moving outside and with the recent videos circulating around the internet, it appears that Thybulle seems to be focusing on that over the summer.
If we could get this type of off-ball movement from Thybulle this season, it should go without saying that the 76ers will have even more depth than initially thought.
