Report: Eagles tried to claim former 3rd-round QB before signing Ian Book

After waiving Reid Sinnet and Carson Strong, the Eagles claimed former Saints QB Ian Book to be their third reserve behind Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew.
Book wasn’t the team’s first option, however.
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Eagles attempted to claim ex-Vikings QB Kellen Mond before Cleveland got to him first:
Very interesting note to the Kellen Mond situation from a league source: While the #Browns ended up w/Mond – the former #Vikings’ 3rd-rd pick – I’m told the #Eagles actually claimed Mond as well. Cleveland had the higher claim and Philly ended up claiming Ian Book from #Saints.

Mond was originally selected in the third round of last year’s draft out of Texas A&M, but he failed to impress new head coach Kevin O’Connell during the preseason.
He now joins a QB room featuring Jacoby Brissett, Joshua Dobbs, and eventually — Deshaun Watson.
