Red October: Where the Phillies stand after series sweep of the Washington Nationals

The Philadelphia Phillies swept the Washington Nationals over the weekend while the majority of Philadelphia sports fans shifted focus over to the Philadelphia Eagles and Week One of the NFL season.
The Fightins now sit 1.5 games ahead of San Diego for the second Wild Card spot in the National League, after the Padres lost 2-of-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend.
Phillies Wild Card Standings

Worth noting: The San Diego Padres will now head to Seattle to face the Mariners in a two-game series, a team that currently is tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the first Wild Card spot in the American League.
With 22 games left in the 2022 MLB Season, the Phillies will now shift focus back to the Miami Marlins, a team they just took 2-of-3 games from last week.
The good news for Phillies fans, is that beating the Marlins has been much easier this year than in season’s past. The Phillies are now 10-6 against the Fish this season and have won eight out of their last 10 meetings, which included a series sweep in Miami back in early July.
The Marlins are a miserable 58-83 on the year and have lost seven out of their last 10 games.
Bailey Falter will take the mound tonight against NL Cy Young front-runner Sandy Alcantara. Yes, Alcantara is dominant, but he hasn’t found much success against the Phillies this season posting a 1-2 record with an ERA of 3.28 and 33 strikeouts over 5 appearances.
J.T. Realmuto is 9-30 (.300) with a home run and 6 RBIs in 30 plate appearances against Sandy Alcantara in his career. The Best Catcher in Baseball has returned to form over the final stretch of the season. Over his last 30 games, Realmuto is slashing .327/.392/.626 with six home runs and 26 RBI.Â
The Hunt for Red October Continues.
