Red October: Where the Phillies stand after getting swept by the Atlanta Braves

The Philadelphia Phillies got swept by the Braves down in Atlanta over the weekend.
There are 16 games left in the regular season and the Phillies will have the day off today before opening their final home stand of 2022 tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays. With three straight losses, the Phillies remain at 80 wins with their loss total jumping up to 66 games.
At the same time, the Padres have won three straight games, pushing the Phillies down to the third and final NL Wild Card spot. The Brewers are on the outside looking in, two games behind the Phillies.
Phillies Wild Card Standings

In the National League East, the New York Mets swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in a four game series over the weekend and will now play three games against the team chasing the Phillies in the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Mets still hold a one game advantage in the division against the Atlanta Braves.
After three in Atlanta, the Fightins return home to play two games against the Toronto Blue Jays, then four at home against the Braves.
That will be the last time the Phillies are in Philadelphia until at the earliest, mid-October.
Ending the season on a 10-game road trip, and then a likely Wild Card series that will include three games on the road, sounds completely miserable but the Phillies schedule will lighten up a bit after a tough home stand this week.
The first seven games on the road trip are against the Chicago Cubs, who are 22 games below .500 and then the Washington Nationals, who the Phillies absolutely destroy this season. The final three games of the regular season are in Houston against the Astros, who are currently coasting to an AL West Crown.
The Mets and Braves are still in a tight race for the NL East title. It will be interesting how both teams handle their starting rotations while battling it out for the NL East.
The Phillies could get a bit of luck and enter a Wild Card series with the Mets and/or Braves not having their best pitchers on the mound, which could fall into the Phillies favor.
The Hunt for Red October Continues.
