WATCH: Former Eagles HC Doug Pederson jokes that he expects to get booed when he returns to The Linc in Week 4

As good as the Eagles have looked under head coach Nick Sirianni this season, we all still have a soft spot for Philly’s former HC, Doug Pederson.
After bringing Philadelphia its first Super Bowl victory back in 2017-’18, he famously proclaimed, “This is the new norm,” during the team’s parade down Broad Street. As we all know, Pederson’s Eagles never came close to those heights again, only capturing one playoff victory during the three years that followed.
Nevertheless, he won the freakin’ Super Bowl. For that, he’ll never have to pay for a beer in this city again. But, as the former Eagles HC revealed during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” this week, Pederson hopes he’s welcomed with a chorus of boo’s when his Jacksonville Jaguars come to town in a couple of weeks.
Doug Pederson on how he expects to be received when he returns to Philly in Week 4

“Well, I’d hope I get booed,” Pederson joked when asked about the reception he’s expecting in Week 4. “That would make me feel welcomed. Get booed a little bit, feel right back at home.”
Douggie P just gets it. His response to Rich Eisen’s question was obviously tongue and cheek, but it’s still clear that he understands what this city is all about.
We don’t boo our own players because we despise them. No, we boo our own players and coaches because we hold them to a higher standard than most sports cities. It’s out of love, not hate.
When the boo’s stop pouring down, that’s when you’ll know we’re really pissed.
“Honestly, I think it’ll be a great reception,” Doug continued. “It’s a place where we won a championship, and the first one in Eagles history. So, it means a lot, it’s a special time, and a special place, obviously, for that. I’m looking forward to going back up there and hopefully I get a little mixed reaction.”
Now that we’re about two years removed from the Doug Pederson era, I imagine most sensible Eagles fans appreciate Pederson for everything he accomplished during his time here.
Though he’s hoping for a mixed reaction come Week 4, he’ll more than likely be welcomed back with applause and cheers. He managed to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia. There’s literally nothing more any of us could have asked for.
